There are garages to rent in many parts of the borough. In some areas they are popular and we have a waiting list. In other areas we have vacancies and you can usually get one straight away. You can see the locations of the garages we manage on our interactive maps available on this website.
There are set charges for renting a garage. Council Tenants are charged £5.97 per week, however if you are a private applicant we have to add VAT, which brings the weekly charge to £7.01 per week. These charges are for the financial year 2007/08. The charges are reviewed and set on an annual basis normally.
If you would like to rent a garage, you will need to fill in an application form.

Garages should normally be used to store your car, but you can use them for other things as long as you don’t cause a nuisance or do anything which is dangerous or illegal. You must not use your garage for carrying out any business or trade unless we give you permission in writing first. You must never store petrol or other flammable substances in the garage.
You can pay your garage rent in the same way you pay rent for your home.
You can end your garage tenancy by giving one week’s notice in writing, ending on a Monday. Remember to make sure that the rent is up to date, all the keys are returned and all your belongings are removed.
Yes. If you do not pay your rent, or if you break the conditions of your garage tenancy, we can give you one week’s notice in writing that we are ending your tenancy. We will charge you if we have to change the locks.
