We are committed to cutting our carbon footprint - that's the amount of carbon dioxide we produce each year.
Here are some examples of projects that we are working on:
We believe that we can reduce our carbon footprint by 100 tonnes by installing special devices at our Sheltered Housing schemes. The powerPerfector can reduce the level of energy we use. These are installed at the mains. They also help to protect equipment against power spikes. This is a joint project with the council. The devices will pay for themselves within three years. It is estimated that 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be saved each year.
There is one project that is contributing a great deal to cutting our carbon footprint. In communal boiler rooms in Sheltered Housing, most valves and flanges are not lagged. This means energy is wasted heating the boiler room. We will be putting in extra lagging to solve this problem. This scheme will reduce our carbon footprint by 165 tonnes. It will cut energy costs by 3 to 5 percent. This could be a saving of almost £14,000 a year, about £40 per person.
