On Wednesday 6th October residents in Colchester Borough Homes Sheltered accommodation will try and set a local record for the number of people all doing seated exercises at the same. The event brings to an end a week of events celebrating UK Older People’s Day 2009 which was on Thursday 1 October.
Residents will be taking part in the event at six schemes in Colchester: Grymes Dyke Court, Plum Hall, Heathfields, Enoch House, Walnut Tree House, and Britannia Court. We hope to have over one hundred and twenty older people taking part.
The week of events opened on Thursday 1 October with a Health and Wellbeing Day at the St. Anne’s Community centre. Residents took part in massage and Chi Kung sessions, as well as learning about the health benefits of laughter.
The events are taking place under the “Full of Life” banner. “Full of Life” is a celebration of the achievements and aspirations of older people and their contribution to our society and economy.
Colchester Borough Homes Head of Services For Older People, Jacqui Tavner, said: “We want to recognise the great achievements and contributions that older people have made to society. We also want to promote the healthy living message to residents. We hope we can set a local record for the most older people taking part in seated exercises at the same time across Colchester.”
