Colchester Borough Homes has launched its Local Business Accord. The aim of the accord is improve both our relationship with local companies, and the service that tenants and leaseholders get. Small businesses depend on public sector organisations for a significant amount of income, according to the Federation of Small Businesses.
Fifteen local companies signed the accord at a special partnership meeting at Colchester Borough Homes on Tuesday 23rd June. The accord is just one part of a larger strategy designed to support local businesses, and at the same time get the best value for money for residents. The companies are: AF Woodward, Whitehall Electrical, Colchester Skip Hire, Barrons, TB Plastering, Gateway Partnership, Archer Windows, Mersea Drains, Boleyn Brickwork, JCH Contracts, KJ Electricals, Reid, CWB Roofing, Kent Blaxill, Premiere Groundworks, ND Smith and Stroods.
Firms who sign the accord, agree to follow Colchester Borough Homes procedures in the following areas: health and safety, equal opportunities, and complaints. They will also sign Colchester Borough Homes code of conduct. Companies will get access to training and be consulted during regular meetings.
Colchester Borough Homes has also signed the FSB’s “Small Business Engagement Accord”. It means that Colchester Borough Homes has signed up to a new voluntary code of practice. The Accord is designed to increase the level of communication between local authorities and small businesses. Organisations which sign the agreement pledge their support for fourteen key principles.
Colchester Borough Homes Director of Property Services, Daniel Allen, says “It’s great to see such a strong level of support for our Local Business Accord. We think it’s important to invest in Colchester’s economy. This is even more important during the current recession, which has hit the building and trade sector very hard.”
