Colchester Borough Homes has a new chair of its board. Alison Inman, who is an independent board member, succeeds the Labour councillor Tim Young who is stepping down as the chair. He will remain on the board.
Alison Inman took over at a board meeting on October 9th. She is 45, and has lived in Colchester for seventeen years. She is also a lay magistrate. She was a former council tenant in Basildon for six years. She joined the board in January 2007.
The board of Colchester Borough Homes is responsible for the strategic oversight of the company. It has fifteen members, and is composed of 6 councillors from all the main political parties, 3 independent members, 5 tenants and 1 leaseholder.
Speaking about his time as the chair, Tim Young said, “It has been a privilege to serve as the first ever chair of the board of Colchester Borough Homes. It was an ambition achieved to see the company formed in the first place but then to be asked to lead the board for five years has been a dream come true. I would like to thank all the staff and board members for their great support and backing over the years as well as that of our customers, the council tenants and leaseholders.”
He said, “I’m proud of our many achievements including bringing over 5000 properties up to the Decent Homes standard, all our community development work, and, especially, the way we have dramatically increased the involvement and participation of our tenants.”
The new chair, Alison Inman, has set out a clear vision for the future, “I want to help ensure that Colchester Borough Homes is the landlord of choice throughout the borough. Our residents in the villages are as important to me - and the rest of the company - as those in larger estates.”
She added, “Colchester Borough Homes is a successful organisation and I want us to build on the good work we are already doing to make us even better. I have met many of our tenants and leaseholders on estate tours, and hope to meet more of them and find out their views. I want the board to take a proactive role in the strategic governance and monitoring of the organisation and to improve further our excellent relationship with Colchester Borough Council.”
