Cherry Trees was built in 1982 in the rural area of Blackheath in Colchester and is made up of three bungalows and several small blocks of flats. Cherry Trees has 24 one-bedroom flats and 10 two-bedroom flats. One of the bungalows that forms part of the scheme is suitable for wheelchair users.

Communal Facilities
A door entry system is fitted at the main entrance of Charles Smith House. This security feature enables you to identify any visitors before you allow them into the building. You can relax in your home knowing it is safe.
Two car parks offer convenient parking for tenants and their visitors. If friends or relatives wish to stay a fully furnished guest room is available. You can enjoy social and recreational activities in the lounge. Seating is provided in the small garden.
For your convenience a variety of mobile shops call regularly including a grocer and fishmonger. A hairdresser will call on request. If you enjoy reading, the mobile library calls monthly with a wide variety of books including large print.
A 24-hour alarm call system is fitted to all the properties in the scheme. This links you to the Scheme Manager or Helpline when the Scheme Manager is off duty. The alarm call system offers you the reassurance that help is always available if you need it.
Social Activities
As part of their professional service the Scheme Manager will arrange a programme of social events and outings in consultation with tenants. Whilst this is an opportunity to socialise and make new friends there is no pressure on you to take part in any of these activities.

Rent and Service Charges
The rent will vary depending upon the size of property you are offered. The weekly rent at Cherry Trees includes a service charge element as well as charges for gas, electricity, water rates, the services of the Scheme Manager and Helpline. You will be individually responsible for your council tax, house insurance and telephone bill.
If you are on a low income you may be entitled to help with your housing costs from Housing Benefit and a Supporting People Grant. You may also be entitled to other welfare benefits.
