Heathfields House was built in 1981 and was the first extra-care scheme built by Colchester Borough Council. Extra-care enables frail older people to live independently. Staff work closely with families, health and social services personnel to ensure frail older tenants may enjoy their independence for as long as possible with assessed care packages. Heathfields House is made up of 6 bungalows and a two-storey building containing 31 flats. It is a mixed scheme with 19 extra-care properties and 18 sheltered properties.

Communal Facilities
A door entry system is fitted at the main entrance of Heathfields House. This security feature makes it possible for you to identify any visitors before you allow them into the building. You can relax in your home knowing it is safe.
A small car park provides limited parking for tenants and their visitors. If friends or relatives wish to stay a fully furnished guest room with bathroom en suite is available. You can enjoy social and recreational activities in the spacious lounge and the scheme is surrounded by attractive landscaped gardens. Heathfields House has two bathrooms, one on each floor. There is also a shower room on the ground floor. A well-equipped laundry room is also available.
For your convenience a mobile hairdresser calls regularly and uses the hairdressing salon in the scheme. For a small charge you have the option of a midday meal every day.
A 24-hour alarm call system is fitted to all the properties in the scheme. This links you to the Scheme Manager or Helpline when the Scheme Manager is off duty. The alarm call system offers you the reassurance that help is always available if you need it.
Social Activities
As part of their professional service the Scheme Manager will arrange a programme of social events and outings in consultation with tenants. Whilst this is an opportunity to socialise and make new friends there is no pressure on you to take part in any of these activities.

Rent and Service Charges
The rent will vary depending upon the size of property you are offered. The total weekly rent for all the properties at Heathfields House includes a service charge element as well as charges for the services of the Scheme Manager and Helpline.
- Gas, electricity and water charges are included in the rent for extra-care properties.
- A heating change is included in the rent for sheltered properties.
- The rent for the bungalows is exclusive of gas, electricity and water rates.
You will be individually responsible for your council tax, house insurance and telephone bill.
