Getting Ready For Digital TV

The Big Switch

In 2011 this region will be switched from analogue to digital TV. You can find out more about the switch at Digital UK. If you live in a block of flats, or sheltered housing then we have to take steps to make sure that you can receive digital TV. This is because these type of homes use a shared aerial and reception system, which we are responsible for.

What We Are Doing

We are working with Colchester Borough Council to install digital TV reception systems by June 2011. We are looking at two main systems:

Integrated Reception System (IRS)

The IRS system gives tenants and leaseholders the options of receiving Sky Plus (on a subscription basis) and Sky FreeSat or BBC/ITV FreeSat (for a one off charge with no ongoing subscription), eliminating the need for individual sky satellite dishes.

MATV

This gives residents the ability to get Digital TV through the main communal aerial.

Keeping You Informed

We held information seminars across the borough in February 2009 to advise tenants and leaseholders of our plans for upgrading communal aerials. If you were unable to attend one of these sessions but would like more information please contact Gill Thomson, Community Involvement Manager, 01206 507897 or e mail gillian.thomson.cbhomes@colchester.gov.uk
