Environmental Improvements Group
About The Group
One of the aims of the Enviromental Improvements Group is involve tenants and leaseholders in the decision making process.
The Environmental Improvements Group first met on 19th October 2004 and quickly established its current role. It is mainly concerned with the outside environment and how it can be improved. Most of the projects considered by the committee are suggested by Colchester Borough Homes. It also gives small grants for Community Initiative Projects which are suggested by residents or other organisations.
How It Works
The main role of committee is to evaluate projects, make recommendations, and allocate funding. It may also make alternative suggestions to solve an environmental issue. It tackles projects that do not fit neatly into neat budget categories. It can bring all the parties involved together, and commission its own projects.
The committee is made up of a mixture of tenants, leaseholders, and Colchester Borough Homes staff. Three of its current members have been involved since the first meeting. The committee is now organised and run by the tenant and leaseholder members, who produce their own agenda and minutes and also chair the meeting. Colchester Borough Homes staff undertaking the actual commissioning of work.
