Investors In People
Colchester Borough Homes is committed to investing in its staff and recently retained its Investor in People Accreditation.
The reassessment of CBH for the Investor in People (IiP) award took place in June 2006. The Assessor reviewed evidence and documentation and spent two days visiting our offices. The formal report from the Assessor has highlighted the following strengths and a very small number of areas for improvement:
Strengths
- A committed management team and an open style of management
- Chair and Chief Executive’s Roadshows and management team consultations and communication strategies.
- Support from line managers
- Sustained planning and review strategy benchmarked to internal and external performance targets
- Positive feedback on the partnership operational and support practices
- Open and objective communication style ensuring access and updates are circulated and shared with relevant managers and staff across teams and locations.
- Formation of working groups and internal secondments to develop and enhance performance improvement strategies
- Strengthened communication and access to electronic strategies and procedures including the Intranet site.
- Fair access to a range of internal and external learning and development and professional qualifications that underpin individual and team development, career opportunities and progression.
- A culture of fairness and equality across teams with feedback endorsing many examples of internal promotions and enhanced responsibilities.
Improvement Suggestions
- SMART objectives to be included in the Training Plan.
- Inclusion of an overview of each department and key personnel in the Induction Programme
- Introducing a training card (similar to a flex/holiday form) for people to agree and record individual learning and development activities and outcomes.
- Introduction of a desk-based notice to limit interruptions in an open plan working environment
The outcome from the reassessment was excellent and CBH has retained IiP status which was due entirely to the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone in the Company. We will work towards the higher award for our next renewal.
An action plan has been produced and the suggestions made will be implemented within the coming months.
