Assisted Gardening

What Is The Assisted Gardening Scheme?

The aim of the scheme is to provide a grass and hedge cutting service to those who are unable to maintain their gardens.

It is provided to council tenants who meet the qualifying criteria.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply if you are a council tenant and you and your partner receive a state retirement pension (Old Age Pension).

We might be able to help if you are under pensionable age but only if you are registered as physically disabled.

You will not qualify for this scheme if you have relatives living in the Colchester area who are able to assist you.

We would make an exception if your relatives are disabled, but you would need to provide us with proof of their disability.

What does the scheme include?

You can choose to have your grass cut or hedges trimmed (or both).

There is currently no charge for this service.

Your grass will be cut up to 11 times a year between March and October and your hedges trimmed in June and October.

These dates may vary slightly depending on weather conditions.

What is not included in the scheme?

We will not be able to help you with gardening such as: digging, weeding and pruning trees and bushes.
