Regional Choice Based Lettings

Colchester Borough Council currently uses a Choice Based Lettings Scheme as the best approach for the future allocation of social housing.  Choice based lettings allows social landlords to advertise their available homes and customers are then asked to express an interest in the property they would like to live in.  Colchester Borough Council has now agreed in principal to use a Sub – Regional Choice Based Lettings Scheme as the best approach for the future allocation of social housing. This allows applicants to bid on properties that are in other local authority areas.

The proposed scheme involves Colchester joining with seven other local authorities in the North Essex and Suffolk sub-region (Greater Haven Gateway). Your views are being sought on this new system. You can find out more information about the proposed scheme here.

The draft allocations policy can be found here
