We were set up in August 2003 by Colchester Borough Council. We are 100% owned by the council. We exist to provide tenancy management and maintenance services for council homes.
Colchester Borough Homes is what is called an Arms Length Management Organisation or ALMO. The incentive for local authorities to set up an ALMO is that it could unlock extra funding for the Decent Homes programme. Click here to find more about Decent Homes. Just to give you an example of how the system works; in 2004 we were given a "good" rating by the Audit Commission. This unlocked an extra thirteen and half million pounds for the Decent Homes programme in Colchester.
We have a board which is responsible for our strategic direction. The board is a mixture of councillors, tenants and leaseholders, and independent members. Click here to find out more about what the board does. Click here to see who is on our board.
Then, we have a senior management team, which is in charge of the day to day running of the organisation. Click here to find out who they are.
